Ghillie Suit

October 25, 2019

This ghillie suit was created  for “The Obscured Self,” a fashion show about hiding in plain site.  It was born of my particular interest in objects that can act as a conduit for unfiltered public forum, eg. tags, messages, fliers. Telephone poles are ubiquitous utilitarian objects that become sounding boards for the public at large.

Diary Library

October 24, 2019

There’s something ritualistically special about a library. It’s an avenue toward experiencing the stories it contains, sure, but way more than that, it’s about the experience of being there, with the objects that contain those stories. The diary library that will grow out of Vulnerable is especially meaningful in this sense, because all its contents are not only one-of-a-kind, but, at least during the time they were written, were of tremendous significance to their owners. They hold stories, secrets, slices of souls. Things like that are meant to be held, not forgotten.

As a photographer, capturing the essence of individual personas has been core to my practice. While the lens allows tremendous subtle- ty in the implication of what’s underneath the surface of a subject, at the end of the day, in a photograph, you are dealing with appearances. An exploration of what we all share, and yet is entirely our own. A journey through vignettes of selves as snapshots in time.

In Regards to your Local Holiday

October 23, 2019

What happens if you crowd source a new holiday?  In Regards to your Local holiday was a relational facilitation  that began simply as a note posted on social media inviting strangers to engage in conversation about what would constitute an ideal exchange and I would facilitate this exchange.  A small list of criteria was born from the conversation:

  1. A Picnic
  2. Hugs
  3. A Gong

On a beautiful day in spring 200 strangers met in Boulder’s Central Park.  I hit a gong to signify the beginning of 15 minute-long embrace between the participants.  At 15 minutes I hit the gong again, signaling the beginning of the mass picnic.

The event lasted 8 hours total as the event took on a life of it’s own.
